LARGE MAP OF EUROPE AND ASIA – THE GREAT CAPITAL TOUR, c.1950 – VINTAGE SET. Colour lithograph and letterpress printing. From the Menier Chocolate Competition Collection. A large-scale promotional map, created for a Menier Chocolate ‘Collection-Competition’, illustrates the ‘Grand Circuit of Capitals’. The map depicts a vast territory stretching from Europe to the Far East, via North Africa and the Middle East. A red dotted line connects the capitals, each marked by an iconic monument (the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Colosseum in Rome, the Kremlin in Moscow). The map is richly decorated with illustrations depicting the flora and fauna, local people in traditional dress, and the typical modes of transport for each region. This map retains its original competition borders, featuring numbered boxes and a “Collector’s Form” to be completed. Folded. 64.5 x 99 cm. Condition A/B (rare short tears along the edges and slightly dusty; three small holes or tears in the top left-hand corner; generally in good condition).
