ALPES-MARITIMES (06) – “L’ESCARENE, view from the main bridge (Alpes-Maritimes)”. 19th century. Original DRAWING by Félix Benoist in graphite, highlighted with white gouache, on greige vellum paper. PREPARATORY DRAWING for the lithograph entitled “L’Escarène: view from the Grand Pont (Alpes-Maritimes)”, published in “Nice et Savoie” in 1864 by Charpentier. Inscribed “L’Escarène, view from the Grand Pont (Alpes-Maritimes)” in pencil in the bottom left-hand corner. Provenance: Collection of the Charpentier studio, run by Pierre-Henri (1788–1854) and his son Henri-Désiré (1806–1883), printers and publishers based in Paris, then in Nantes (from 1854). 23.7 x 32 cm. Condition A (slight crease in the top left-hand corner; otherwise in good condition).
