Description
ILLE-ET-VILAINE (35) – “Interior of DOL-DE-BRETAGNE Cathedral”. 19th century. Original DRAWING (probably by Félix Benoist) in graphite and highlighted with white gouache, on greige vellum paper (with a strip of paper spliced at the edge). PREPARATORY DRAWING for the lithograph entitled “Interior of Dol Cathedral”, published in *La Bretagne contemporaine* in 1858 by Charpentier. “Dol” written in pencil in the bottom left-hand corner. A sketch on the reverse. Provenance: Collection of the Charpentier studio, run by Pierre-Henri (1788–1854) and his son Henri-Désiré (1806–1883), printers and publishers based in Paris, then in Nantes (from 1854). 31.8 x 24.3 cm. Condition A (a short tear at the bottom, otherwise in fine condition).
