LOIRE-ATLANTIQUE (44) – ST JULIEN-DE-VOUVANTES – “Church of St Julien de VOUVANTES”. 19th century. Original drawing by Félix Benoist in graphite on mounted China paper. Inscribed “Church of St Julien de Vouvantes” in pencil in the bottom left-hand corner. Annotated “Snow effect, if you like – Carriage or stagecoach climbing the hill. See the costume from Châteaubriant, a few groups of figures by Bayot” in grey pencil beneath the drawing. Provenance: Collection of the Charpentier workshop run by Pierre-Henri (1788–1854) and his son Henri-Désiré (1806–1883), printers and publishers based in Paris, then in Nantes (from 1854). 28 x 35 cm. Condition A (rare minor handling marks on the edges; subject in good condition).
