LOIRE-ATLANTIQUE (44) – “La HALLE DE NANTES (Costumes of the city and its surroundings)”. 19th century. Original DRAWING by Félix Benoist (1818–1896) in graphite on vellum paper. PREPARATORY DRAWING for the lithograph on the title page of the album “NANTES AND THE LOWER LOIRE”, published in 1850 by Charpentier. Annotated “AND THE LOWER LOIRE” in pencil in the sky. Provenance: From the collection of the Charpentier studio, run by Pierre-Henri (1788–1854) and his son Henri-Désiré (1806–1883), printers and publishers based in Paris, then in Nantes (from 1854). 31 x 20.5 cm. Condition B/C (previously cut and re-glued at the bottom of the image).
