MANCHE (50) – “St Pierre’s Church in COUTANCES”. 19th century. Original graphite drawing by Felix Benoist on mounted China paper. Inscribed “St Pierre Church in Coutance” in pencil in the bottom left-hand corner. PREPARATORY DRAWING for the lithograph published in the album “La Normandie illustrée”. Provenance: From the collection of the Charpentier workshop, run by Pierre-Henri (1788–1854) and his son Henri-Désiré (1806–1883), printers and publishers based in Paris, then in Nantes (from 1854). 33.2 x 23.5 cm. Condition A/B (a few foxing spots and small stains on the edges; the reverse is slightly dusty; the subject is in good condition apart from two small stains in the sky).
