Description
BILLIARDS – “View of the Billiard Room at the Château de MARLY”. c.1860. Etching and burin engraving by Auguste-Alexandre GUILLAUMOT (1815–1892). A proof prior to the first edition, on applied China paper. Narrow margins. “Trained in the academic tradition, Guillaumot contributed to numerous architectural publications and exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français. He moved in the circle of Eugène Viollet-le-Duc, whose son owned a property in Louveciennes. This led the artist to take an interest in Marly and its royal past, which, from 1857 onwards, formed the bulk of his work. He settled there permanently in 1870”. 36.5 x 48.7 cm. Condition B (minor creases and a few short tears in the slightly dusty margins, some foxing on the right-hand margin, subject in good condition).
