Description
FELIN - “Lioness with her cubs”. Early 19th century. Pencil-style engraving by A. NOËL, after a drawing from life by Jean-Baptiste HUET (1745–1811) at the Menagerie of the Jardin des Plantes in Paris. Proof with lettermark, on laid paper, bearing the address “In Paris at Jean’s, 32 Rue Jean de Beauvais”. Copperplate margins. The original drawing is now held at the Albertina Museum in Vienna (inv. no. 12793). 48 x 60.5 cm. Condition A/B (cut at the edge of the copper plate and formerly glued along the edges to the back of a frame; short tears and nicks in the margins; slight signs of handling).
