Contemporary paperback (rubbed and bumped). 2nd edition of the French version of Emperor Charles V’s code of criminal law, the ‘Constitutio Criminalis Carolina’, dated 1532. This document was first published in German and later translated into French for the courts-martial of the Swiss troops. This translation is the work of Franz Adam Vogel, a citizen of the city of Colmar who served as Chief Justice of the Royal Swiss Guard. This legislative monument, which covered general criminal law, special criminal law and, above all, criminal procedure, was far ahead of its time, at least in Europe.
