Half-leather with a mounted gold-embossed spine label and gilt inner edges, as well as coloured edges (worn, heavily bumped, joints cracked). Rare. – First and only edition. – Hiller, 845. – With numerous portraits of the Dukes and Princes of Altenburg together with their spouses. The magnificently coloured plates depict the couples in the fashion typical of the period, each accompanied by a text about the respective ruler and, in some cases, a signature printed beneath the portrait. Among the rulers are Johann Friedrich II, Friedrich Wilhelm and Ernst the Pious. - Plates mostly mounted. Water-stained, margins partly browned. Occasional hand-coloured touches. Overall in good condition. Contains 49 mostly coloured plates, as well as a full-page engraved map and a map within the text.
