Original linen binding (slightly stained). Autographed by Charlie Chaplin and inscribed ‘best wishes’ in 1930. – The first German edition of Charlie Chaplin’s travelogue ‘My Trip Abroad’, in which the film comedian recounts his triumphant tour of Europe in 1921. The book was published in the same year as the English original, as early as 1928 by Paul List Verlag in Leipzig, and is thus one of the earliest German-language publications about the silent film star, who was already world-famous at that time. The edition is prefaced by a biographical essay on Chaplin, written by Heinz Pol himself. The book was edited, translated and adapted by the journalist and translator couple Charlotte and Heinz Pol: Heinz Pol (born Heinz Pollak, 1901–1972) was an editor and film critic at the renowned *Vossische Zeitung*; his wife Charlotte (later known as the journalist Charlotte Beradt) worked as a freelance journalist for publications including *Die Weltbühne*, *Die Dame* and *Tempo*. *Hallo Europa!* is regarded as one of their first joint literary translation projects With a frontispiece portrait and several plates of photographs of film scenes.
