Magnificent contemporary hand-bound brown morocco binding on five bands with gold-embossed fillets, rich floral gilding on the spine and a gold-lettered title on the spine (front cover with minimal light discolouration at the edges; upper capital with slight scuffing). Inside covers with a magnificent gold-embossed lining and comb-marbled paper. Signed: Chambolle-Duru. Brivois 244. – Rochambeau, Fables no. 1027. – Vicaire IV-908. - 1 of 300 copies on vergé paper. - A beautiful, wide-margined edition with all-round gilt edging from the famous bookbindery of Chambolle and Duru in Paris. - Slightly stained in places; overall a fine, decorative copy. With 1 engraved portrait and 50 etchings by Foulquier. Hand-bound in contemporary brown morocco with 5 raised bands (minimally rubbed; one third of the cover slightly light-stained). - One of 300 copies on vergé paper. - A fine, broad-margined copy with gilt edges from the famous bookbindery of Chambolle and Duru in Paris. - Very lightly stained in places; overall, a good, decorative copy.
