AN INTENSE BLaze OF COLOURS – article by Philip Meier:
“Wolf Barth (1926–2010) does not belong to the ‘concrete’ Swiss painters; his paintings seem too free, too ‘artistic’ or inspired.
From the 1970s onwards, Wolf Barth did indeed move away from the dominant artistic trend to pursue his own conception of painting colourful spaces.
And this is not only evident in his compositions on canvas – vivid fields of colour – but his works on paper (...) also bear witness to the joy of experimenting with colour, which was his means of artistic expression”.
All trace of him was lost in 2010 following his death in Paris, where he had moved in the 1950s.
It was not until the end of 2025, during an inventory, that we rediscovered the body of work left by Barth, which was found in the home of the artist’s widow in Reims.
