Description
RENAULT DAUPHINE GORDINI SALOON (R 1095) 1965
VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER : 11457
The 1965 Renault Dauphine Gordini Berline R1095 epitomises the spirit of French motoring in the 1960s: elegant, popular and resolutely sporty. A direct descendant of the famous Dauphine launched by Renault in 1956, this Gordini version benefited from the expertise of Amédée Gordini, nicknamed "the Sorcerer", the famous tuner who transformed modest saloons into veritable little sports cars.
With its 845cc rear engine, fully synchronised four-speed gearbox and four disc brakes - still a rarity at the time - the R1095 offered particularly modern performance and handling for a car in its class. Produced at a time when the classic Dauphine was gradually disappearing from the Renault catalogue, the Gordini became the most accomplished and sought-after version in the range.
A symbol of a France in the throes of modernisation, the Dauphine Gordini appealed as much for its sober, harmonious lines as for its dynamic temperament. Successfully entered in numerous competitions and rallies, it helped build Renault's sporting reputation in the 1960s. Even today, the 1965 Renault Dauphine Gordini R1095 remains an iconic collector's car, appreciated by enthusiasts for its authenticity, retro charm and importance in French motoring history.
