Description
1963 Austin Healey MK2 3000 BJ7 (2+2) French vehicle registration document Chassis No.: HBJ7L20202 4-speed manual gearbox with overdrive Mileage: 03 516 km (not guaranteed) In 1952, at the Earls Court Motor Show in London, Donald Healey unveiled a prototype he had designed in secret: the Healey 100, so named for its ability to exceed 100 mph (160 km/h). In the crowd, Leonard Lord, boss of Austin (a subsidiary of the BMC Group), was impressed. He proposed a partnership whereby Austin would handle production and distribution, whilst Healey would be responsible for design and development. The first Austin-Healey 100 (BN1 series) was launched in 1953, fitted with a 2.6-litre four-cylinder engine and capable of speeds in excess of 160 km/h. Its long bonnet, low-slung lines and modest weight proved an instant hit. Even today, the Austin-Healey remains the quintessential British roadster. The example we are presenting is an Austin-Healey 3000 MK2 BJ7 (2+2) which rolled off the production line in France in November 1963 and has been very well maintained ever since. To date, it has had four known owners, including Jacques Dessange (as evidenced by the original registration document), the famous Parisian hairdresser and businessman. In its original ‘Old English White’ livery, a blue wrap has been added, but the paintwork is generally in good condition. The test drive proved very enjoyable; the gears change smoothly, and the handling is supple and responsive. A bespoke exhaust system makes our Austin unique, with a vibrant sound. Our Austin Healey is the ideal entry-level car for all touring rallies.
