Description
1949 MG TC
• French classic car registration document
• Chassis number: TC7798
Fully restored in 1998
• 1,250 cc XPAG 4-cylinder engine
- Legendary post-war roadster
- The beginning of the great adventure of British roadsters in the USA
The MG TC is much more than just a classic car: it marks a turning point in the history of sports cars. Produced from 1945 to 1949 in a run of just 10,000 units, it was one of the first British sports cars to conquer the American market, driven by American soldiers who had discovered it in Europe during the war and could no longer do without it. It was at the wheel of a TC that future champions such as Phil Hill cut their teeth in competition.
Its 1,250 cc XPAG engine, fed by two SU carburettors, develops 54 bhp and propels this little 750 kg roadster with a liveliness and a sound that few modern cars can match. With its space-frame chassis, rear-wheel drive, minimalist two-seater cockpit and folding windscreen, the TC hides nothing of its mechanics and promises only one thing: driving pleasure in its purest form.
The example on offer, chassis number TC7798, was delivered in 1949 before being imported to France and subsequently acquired by its current owner in 2018. The vehicle starts and runs correctly and is in good overall condition. This example features an elegant colour scheme, with a white body, a wooden dashboard and a sky-blue instrument panel. The car was fully restored between 1998 and 1999. A photo file is available on request. A mascot sits atop the radiator, but the original cap is supplied with the car.
An opportunity to acquire one of the last examples of a car that literally changed the world’s perception of British sports cars.
