In the early 1990s, Mercedes was looking to attract younger customers. The success of the Mazda MX-5 showed that there was a strong demand for small, sporty convertibles. Mercedes therefore presented its concept in 1994 at the Turin Motor Show. It was so enthusiastically received that the production version arrived in 1996.
The SLK's success was largely due to its electrically retractable hardtop, which provided a level of versatility that its canvas-top rivals could not match! The Vario-Roof makes the SLK just as comfortable in winter as a coupé, as it is in summer with its hair blowing in the wind!
Our example was delivered new to Monaco, in the 2.3-litre 4-cylinder version developing 193 bhp, and coupled to the automatic gearbox. After the death of its owner, it was put away for many years before going into the garage of the previous owner.
The previous owner put the SLK back on the road with great care, before handing it over to the current owner 3 years ago. Today, our car is in very good original condition, with less than 50,000 km on the clock. Unfortunately, its service book was lost at the time of succession...
