Description
1972 - Ferrari Dino 246 GT Chassis no. 05236 Introduced in 1969 as a replacement for the Dino 206 GT, the Ferrari Dino 246 GT remains today one of the most emblematic cars ever produced in Maranello. Designed as a tribute to Alfredo 'Dino' Ferrari, son of the prematurely deceased Enzo Ferrari, it ushered in a new era for the carmaker with the adoption of a mid-rear V6 engine. Designed by Pininfarina, the Dino was an instant hit with its pure lines, balanced proportions and universally acclaimed road-holding qualities. Its 2.4-litre V6 powered by three Weber carburettors, combined with a five-speed manual gearbox, provided a sound and driving pleasure that became legendary. Produced in less than 2,500 examples between 1969 and 1974, the Dino 246 GT is now recognised as one of the most desirable and important Ferraris of its era. The car presented, chassis no. 05236, was delivered new on 29 November 1972 by Charles Pozzi, the official Ferrari importer in France, to its first owner via New-York Garage in Cannes. It was registered for the first time on 18 December 1972 in the name of Lucien Nicolet, an architect in Cannes, and since then has had only two owners, a feature that has become exceptional for this model. Today, it retains its superb original Rosso Dino 20-R- 350 colour, undoubtedly one of the most emblematic of the production models. The major interest of this example lies above all in its remarkable degree of authenticity. The bodywork is in its original state of preservation, with only a simple coat of old paint. There is, however, some corrosion on the rocker panels. In a market where many Dinos have been modified over the decades, our example stands out for its exceptional authenticity. The interior retains its key original features, including upholstery, carpets, dashboard and roof lining, providing an atmosphere and patina that would be impossible to recreate. What's even more remarkable is that this Dino is accompanied by all its delivery documents: service booklet, user manuals, warranty certificate and its original leather Ferrari pouch. The preservation of this complete set is a real event today, as these accessories have often disappeared over time. This documentation makes it possible to retrace its history with precision, giving the set a credibility and heritage value that is particularly sought after by collectors. In 2013, it underwent a major mechanical overhaul carried out by the specialist Technic Modern Auto in Nice, including the complete removal of the engine, dismantling and checking of the mechanics, refurbishment of the cylinder heads and replacement of numerous internal components, at a total cost of more than €20,000. More recently, between 2023 and 2024, significant work was carried out on the running gear, shock absorbers, braking system, steering, ignition, carburettors and other mechanical components. Due to the fact that it has been out of action for the last few years, some costs will have to be incurred before it can be driven again. It also represents an excellent restoration base for enthusiasts looking for an exceptional Dino. For nearly fifteen years, the Ferrari Dino 246 GT has established itself as one of the most solid values on the classic car market. While its timeless design and dynamic qualities continue to appeal to enthusiasts, the most discerning collectors are now looking first and foremost for the most authentic examples. Cars preserved in their original configuration, with a perfectly established provenance, a small number of owners and full documentation, have become exceptionally rare. Meeting all these criteria, this original French Dino is one of the most interesting examples currently available on the market. Its remarkable authenticity, exemplary traceability and the presence of its original accessories make it a true benchmark car, particularly sought-after in the current context of classic Ferrari appreciation.
