Description
1961 - Lancia Flaminia Sport Zagato 2.5
Chassis no.: 824001515
French collector's registration
One of the most beautiful designs of the late 60's using Ercole Spada's own codes for Zagato.
Perfectly presented and in perfect working order. Restored by brand specialist KCA Restauri, now known as Maximilian K Automobili.
Equipped with the more powerful 2.8 3C engine but still accompanied by its original engine.
When it was unveiled in 1957, the Flaminia succeeded the emblematic Aurelia and embodied the pinnacle of Lancia expertise. A true technological showcase for the Turin-based brand, it used the famous V6 engine designed by Francesco De Virgilio and benefited from a sophisticated architecture. Its high-speed stability and mechanical refinement quickly made it one of the best European grand tourers of its time. To give its new flagship a sportier dimension, Lancia called on Zagato. The Milanese coachbuilder entrusted the project to a young stylist with a brilliant future: Ercole Spada. Launched in 1958, the Flaminia Sport Zagato immediately stood out for its low, light and aerodynamic silhouette. Its famous "double bubble" roof became one of Zagato's most emblematic signatures, while its perfect proportions gave it a timeless elegance. Lighter and more powerful than the other versions in the Flaminia range, it appealed to a clientele of discerning enthusiasts looking for a GT car that was as refined as it was exclusive.
The model's rarity is a major factor in its current prestige. Only 199 of the first Flaminia Sport 2.5s were produced, including 99 cars with plexiglass clad headlights and around 100 second series with exposed headlights. Our chassis 824001515 belongs to this very exclusive second series. Taking all the Sport and Super Sport versions together, less than 600 examples were assembled by Zagato, a figure that today places the Flaminia among the rarest and most sought-after Lancia cars of the post-war period.
The car on display was first registered in November 1961. It retains its original 2,458cc V6 engine (MOT82300 2454). In order to preserve the car's historical integrity, its owner has retained the powertrain, which accompanies the car and will be given to its future owner. The Flaminia is currently equipped with a 2.8-litre engine fed by three carburettors, offering enhanced performance while respecting the sporting spirit of the model.
Before joining the collection of a French enthusiast a few years ago as a replacement for a Maserati Mistral Spyder, this Flaminia Sport Zagato benefited from a complete restoration carried out by the KCA workshops in Italy. Recognised as one of the absolute benchmarks for the restoration of classic Lancia cars, and Zagato models in particular, these specialists have restored the car to a very high standard, both aesthetically and mechanically. The car is extremely pleasant to drive, the mechanics are supple and the gearbox is a delight to handle. The brakes give the car a sure-footed ride, and the suspension adds to its comfort.
Rare, elegant and mechanically sophisticated, the Flaminia Sport Zagato is today considered one of the finest creations of the Milanese coachbuilder. Combining the attributes most sought-after by collectors - a design by Ercole Spada, a low production run, a quality restoration and the presence of its original engine - our example represents a particularly attractive opportunity for enthusiasts of the great Italian GTs of the 1960s. Long in the shadow of contemporary Ferraris and Maseratis, the Flaminia Sport is one of the most desirable Lancias ever produced. The presence of the original engine in our example, combined with a restoration carried out by the KCA workshops, further enhances its appeal on the market.
