"Exceptional RUF BTR conversion, recent full restoration".
The story begins in the early 1960s near Pfaffenhausen, Germany. Alois Ruf is taking his son for a drive in the bus he set up in 1955. A Porsche 356 overtakes them and smashes into the scenery: the car is seriously damaged, and the driver is taken to hospital by our two protagonists. After buying the wreck, Ruf father and son set to work rebuilding it piece by piece: it was the first contact between Alois Ruf Jr. and Porsche. Faced with the overwhelming passion of this young man (aged 13 at the time of the 356 episode), the family company, Auto-RUF, began to specialise in repairing wrecked Porsches in the region.
Alois Ruf Sr. died in 1974, leaving his 24-year-old son to take over the family business. Drawing on his already considerable experience, Alois Jr. proposed improvements from 1977 onwards, first on the 911 Turbo, then on most of the range. Very quickly, the success and quality of these optimisations enabled him to obtain the absolute grail for any tuner: the German government granting him the status of car manufacturer. Born of a father/son passion, RUF's creations are now among the most sought-after cars on the market, with a new auction record at the beginning of 2025 for a Yellowbird at over 6,000,000 dollars!
Our example was originally sold new in Germany as a 930 Turbo 3.3 with a 4-speed gearbox, in Guards Red. Its option sheet, still present under the front bonnet, also indicates code Z, reserved for cars adapted as special series or in production... As for the service booklet, it has been lost, but a duplicate was provided by the Porsche Classic Bordeaux centre, indicating here other options, in particular the rare and sought-after self-locking differential.
Our 930 Turbo was subsequently converted into a RUF BTR: the engine bears the BTR number 34062, the gearbox is now a 5-speed, the brakes are signed RUF, the car is lowered, and all the cosmetic elements are present (RUF Speedline wheels, special mirrors, RUF steering wheel, etc.). It joined the collection of its current owner, a great collector of the German marque, in 2015. Just before its purchase, a complete restoration was carried out: rebuilding the engine and gearbox, complete paintwork, and upgrading the running gear at a cost of more than €38,000 (invoice available on file). Since its purchase, this collector has only driven it a handful of kilometres, while taking care to maintain his RUF on a regular basis.
Now in a very good state of preservation, this RUF will receive some minor work before the sale so that it is perfectly ready to take to the road. A true myth, rare both on the road and on the market, Porsches that have received the RUF preparation are potential collectors, reserved for a public of connoisseurs...
