Description
1963 - Jaguar E-Type 3.8 Coupé Chassis no. J64889917 French registration Interesting Fast-Road preparation The generation of XK 120, 140 and 150 roadsters made a major contribution to Jaguar's sporting image, not least through its success in competition. But as the years go by, Jaguar needs to find a worthy successor to its glorious history. So the Coventry-based firm worked in the greatest secrecy on the car it was to call the E Type, in reference to the C and D Types which had won the Le Mans 24 Hours and many other international events... Unveiled in Geneva, rather than London, to underline its commitment to an international career, the E-Type was an immediate success, and was soon voted "most beautiful car in the world" by specialist journalists and by Enzo Ferrari, no less. English designer Malcolm Sayer gave his creation the immensely long bonnet on a very light tubular chassis, which contributed to the car's magnetism for the public, then and now. Far less expensive than its direct rivals, with a sporty chassis and first-rate performance, the E-Type had it all... Our example comes from the first series, equipped with the 6-cylinder, 3.8-litre engine. Like the vast majority of cars produced, it was delivered new to the United States before returning to Europe. Its invoice file dates back to 1990, and bears witness to the extensive work carried out to achieve this interesting 'Fast-Road' preparation. Improvements included a synchronised 4-speed gearbox, self-locking short axle, Dunlop rims, Matter roll bar, large-diameter brake callipers, etc. Our car went on to take part in a number of historic events, including the Tour Auto regularity race and the Coupe des Alpes. An old PTH and FFSA 3-volt passport are also included in the file. Now in excellent condition, both in terms of appearance and running order, this E-Type is the ideal compromise between touring and racing!
