Description
1973 - Porsche 911 Carrera RS Lightweight Chassis no. 9113600231 French registration The Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 RS occupies a special place in motoring history. The first 911 to be given the 'Carrera' name, in homage to Porsche's victories in the Carrera Panamericana, it also inaugurates the prestigious 'RS' acronym for Rennsport. Designed for Group 4 homologation, it represents the perfect synthesis between road car and racing car, a philosophy that has forged the legend of the 911 over the years. Powered by a 2.7-litre flat-six engine with Bosch mechanical fuel injection and 210 bhp, the Carrera RS 2.7 offered exceptional performance for its time. Its wide wings, ducktail rear wing and low weight made it one of the most iconic Porsches ever produced. The example presented here is a genuine Carrera 2.7 RS in its highly sought-after Lightweight configuration (M471), a lightweight version produced in only 200 examples. Delivered new in Switzerland on 7 February 1973, it still wears its original Grand Prix White livery with blue wheels and lettering and a black KL interior. Fitted with the rare 'M220' optional self-locking axle, this car has a particularly well-documented history. Its file includes copies of the registration documents tracing its life since 1981, when it was bought by an enthusiast in the east of France. First registered in the Jura, then in Maine et Loire from 1982 to 1991, it was then registered in Touraine until 2000 before Christian Tahon, co-founder of the benchmark magazine Flat 6, bought it until 2006! It was Tahon who undertook a major restoration in 2003. Having raced the car, it was decided to return it to its original configuration. The restoration was entrusted to Garage Ollier in Carqueiranne. The car was completely disassembled and put through its paces. Several photos were included in the file, as well as a four-page article in Flat 6 magazine, the original copy of which now accompanies the vehicle. In May 2007, it was acquired by its current owner. As a gentleman driver of more modern racing cars, he takes the utmost care with the jewel in his collection. In 2015, the engine (a 1975 2.7-litre magnesium block) was completely rebuilt. 11 years later, mechanical fuel injection and 210 bhp have given our car the top-class performance and handling that have made it one of the brand's icons. Since its complete restoration, the car has retained its bolted roll-bar, but it has only been used for leisure, exclusively for touring and sightseeing, which explains its excellent general state of preservation. The odometer currently reads just over 92,200 kilometres. Today, this 911 Carrera RS 2.7 combines the qualities most sought-after by collectors: an emblematic Lightweight 'M471' specification, a perfectly tracked history, abundant documentation, recently rebuilt mechanicals and a known provenance. It represents a rare opportunity to acquire one of the most legendary Porsches of all time, a seminal model whose aura continues to fascinate enthusiasts the world over more than fifty years after its birth.
