Chassis no. 17204
French collector's registration
An emblematic Torpedo of the Roaring Twenties, with a robust and reliable engine ideal for pre-war beginners.
The Delage DI was presented at the Paris Motor Show in 1923. It succeeded the Delage DE and became one of the brand's greatest commercial successes, with more than 9,000 examples produced by 1928. It was a perfect example of Delage's expertise in the field of mid-range and top-of-the-range touring cars.
The DI was powered by a 2.1-litre 4-cylinder engine developing around 30 bhp. Its five-bearing crankshaft and overhead valve timing make the engine more reliable, smoother and more efficient. With its 4-speed manual gearbox and four-wheel drum brakes, it was a modern car for its time.
The DI range marked Delage's golden age in the 1920s. Its commercial success enabled the brand to continue developing more prestigious models such as the D6 and D8 at the end of the decade. At the same time, Delage gained international renown thanks to its success in motor racing.
Our example is a DI Series 4 with torpedo bodywork. It was acquired in 1984 by the president of the Vieilles Roues Charentaises club. A professional mechanic, he personally supervised its restoration and maintenance over the years. The bodywork was given a new two-tone paint finish, which still looks great today. The interior and soft top were also restored and remain in good condition. The current owner acquired this Delage in 2019. Since then, it has mainly been used for weddings.
The torpedo bodywork is an excellent choice for discovering the world of pre-war automobiles. Elegant, easy to use and user-friendly, it offers an authentic driving experience thanks to its open cabin. When you choose a Delage, you also gain access to the heritage of one of the most prestigious French marques, whose name remains associated with the luxury and mechanical excellence of the golden age of motoring.
