After the Second World War, it was time for France, its army and its industry to rebuild. It was against this backdrop that Latil and Hotchkiss joined forces to offer the army a 4x4 vehicle.
The Latil Hotchkiss M18 T2, launched in 1955, was a light tactical truck combining the Latil 4x4 chassis and a Hotchkiss 6-cylinder engine.
Only 125 examples were built and supplied to the French Army, Navy, Troupes de Marines (overseas) and Air Force. Once returned to civilian life, some were used as tow trucks or forest fire-fighting vehicles.
The example shown here, fitted with a mechanical winch at the rear, seems to have had a second life in the forest. With little wear and tear, its odometer reads just over 13,500 km.
It's a quick starter, and was downgraded to a light commercial vehicle (it can be driven with a B licence). Despite traces of corrosion, and a fuel tank that needs a bit of work (it works with a feeder), it's in original condition, with a recently redone cab cowling.
