Renault needed to keep up with the competition from Citroën, whose front-wheel-drive models had far outstripped Renault’s progress in the saloon car sector. The Americans already had cars of this size fitted with either 6-cylinder or V8 engines. However, the French market was not yet economically ready, and the aftermath of the war was still having an impact on car purchases. This saloon had major advantages: plenty of space, and front and rear bench seats, which meant it could accommodate between 6 and 8 people if children were included. The engine fitted during this period was the famous ‘Étendard’, which was robust and inexpensive to maintain. It was available in several versions: an economy model, the ‘Affaires’, and an upgraded version, the ‘Amiral’. Subsequently, estate cars and even a very attractive convertible were produced until the end of this model’s production run. Condition: This car boasts a lovely patina in its almond green colour and yellow wheels. It is well-equipped, featuring a windscreen visor, a Graduluxe system on the rear window, chrome trim reminiscent of the Renault logo, and faux engine air vents. The interior is equally impressive; everything is clean, and the seats have been reupholstered in brown imitation leather. The engine compartment is also in good condition; the mechanics have been overhauled, but the usual precautions should be taken before setting off again, such as an oil change and checking tyre pressures.
