Launched for the 1984 model year as the successor to the Datsun 280ZX, the 300ZX (Z31) became the first car in the Z range to be marketed under the Nissan brand. A little-known oddity in Europe’s 1980s GT scene, this Nissan 300ZX embodies the culmination of the first major ‘Fairlady Z’ lineage.
A hybrid car designed for the American market, the Nissan Z31 was engineered with Japanese technological rigour. It featured the first V6 engine mass-produced in Japan, the VG30 cast-iron block, which was developed with a substantial safety margin and, in its turbocharged version, readily withstood double the boost pressure. The 300 ZX then vied for the title of ‘Queen of the Motorways’ (Wangan).
The Z31 underwent constant improvements right up to the 1989 model, the final iteration featuring meticulous design and aerodynamics, with: integrated bumpers, widened wings, aerodynamic spoilers and rear-view mirrors, and a modern rear light strip; not to mention its distinctive pop-up headlights, which give the Z31 a distinctive look even when retracted.
Ivoire Troyes is delighted to offer you this 1989 Nissan 300 ZX Turbo. This is a 2+2 (4-seater) version fitted with T-Tops (removable glass roofs that stow in the boot). Presented in a red livery with dark grey side skirts and wheel rims – a look typical of the 1980s – this example is one of the few models sold new in France by the Nissan Paris Sud dealership.
Owned by its current owner since 2019, the car is driven regularly and has been regularly serviced (front shock absorbers, bushings, master cylinder, clutch slave cylinder, timing belt, belts, stainless steel exhaust system). The V6 Turbo starts up in a flash and produces a distinctive, evocative sound.
The bodywork, whilst showing a few signs of wear, is in fairly good overall condition. Having been garaged ever since it was first registered, this car features a well-preserved interior with a dashboard and leather upholstery in good condition.
Delightfully 80s in style, yet functional and robust like all Nissans of its era, this 300 ZX Turbo, with its attractive valuation, is a unique opportunity to acquire a comfortable, high-performance and highly exotic ‘youngtimer’.
