History:
The genuine AC Cobra 427s have enjoyed great success on the racetrack and in rallies since the 1960s. It has become a sporting legend, but fame comes at a price, and numerous small manufacturers have been producing replicas since the early 1970s.
Among enthusiasts, Pilgrim is one of those kit car manufacturers capable of producing semi-identical bodywork – made from plastic alloy – fitted with powerful or very noisy engines. The engines on offer included Ford V8s, Rover V8s and V6s, and finally 4-cylinder engines, which were fitted to the restored Cobra replica convertibles. The manufacturers opted for the 4-cylinder engines sourced from Ford and fitted to the Cortina and Pinto. The advantage of these engines lies in their fuel economy and light weight. Coupled with a 4-speed gearbox, the combination delivers a sense of speed whilst also providing more reasonable braking performance.
Condition:
The Pilgrim Cobra is in excellent condition; its fibreglass body, exterior fittings, side exhaust, and Cooper Cobra wheels and tyres are all in fine condition.
The imitation leather dashboard, the light brown leather seats, the wooden steering wheel and the billiard-ball-style gear lever all contribute to a car in very good condition.
The usual precautions should be taken before setting off, including an oil change, a full vehicle check and checking the tyre pressures.
