1998 – BMW M3 (E36) Chassis no. WBSBG91000EW40048 Belgian registration document ‘Complete service history, under 56,000 km on the clock, Dakar Gelb – what more could you ask for?’ The 1992 Paris Motor Show was the scene of a rather tricky challenge for BMW’s engineers… Following the colossal success of the E30 generation of the M3, how could they build on that? The result presented immediately lived up to expectations, thanks to a major overhaul: the 4-cylinder engine – fierce as it was – was replaced by a 3-litre 6-cylinder… To understand the excitement of the time, Auto Plus ran the headline in 1992: “BMW M3, the car of the century” – nothing less!   In 1995, this same engine was increased to 3.2 litres, delivering 321 ch, and was paired for the most part with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The result was even more refined, and this understated beast was directly compared to the Ferrari F355, Honda NSX and Porsche 993, amongst others…    Our example was delivered new on 30 September 1998 by the Reggio Motori dealership in Italy, in this rare and sought-after Dakar Gelb colour. Its first owner also opted for the manual gearbox… a man of taste! It remained in the same hands (as evidenced by the invoice file) until 2008, when it was sold to the Czech Republic.    This collector kept it until 2018, when he sold it to the current owner, a keen collector of low-mileage cars. Today, the car is in stunning condition… Its original paintwork is very well preserved, as is the interior. The accompanying documentation is impressive and allows you to trace its entire history, from the first stamps in the service book right through to the Czech roadworthiness tests!   A true time capsule, this E36 M3 is sure to delight even the most discerning of youngtimer collectors.
