1973 – Porsche 911 Carrera RS Lightweight Chassis no. 9113600231 French registration document The most famous of the 911 Carreras, shown here in its rarest and most sought-after version, the M471 RS ‘Lightweight’! The Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 RS occupies a special place in motoring history. The first 911 to bear the ‘Carrera’ name – in tribute to Porsche’s victories in the Carrera Panamericana – it also introduced the prestigious ‘RS’ designation, standing for Rennsport. Designed to meet Group 4 homologation requirements, it represents the perfect synthesis between a road car and a competition car – a philosophy that cemented the 911’s legendary status for years to come. Powered by a flat-six engine increased to 2.7 litres, fitted with Bosch mechanical fuel injection and producing 210 chevaux, it offered exceptional performance for its time. Its widened wings, its ‘ducktail’ rear spoiler and its low kerb weight made it one of the most iconic Porsches ever produced.   The example presented here is a Lightweight (M471), a lightweight version of which only 200 were produced. Delivered new in Switzerland on 7 February 1973, it is fitted with the rare optional ‘M220’ self-locking differential and a black KL interior. This car has a well-documented history, including copies of the registration documents dating back to 1981, when it was purchased by a collector from eastern France. It was registered in the Jura, then in Maine-et-Loire from 1982 to 1991, and subsequently in Touraine until 2000.   - Purchased in 2000 by Christian Tahon, co-founder of the leading magazine Flat 6, he began a major restoration in 2003. It was entrusted to Garage Ollier in Carqueiranne, which completely dismantled it before putting it on the ‘spindle’. The file contains several photographs as well as a copy of *Flat 6* magazine featuring a four-page article on the car. In May 2007, it was sold to its current owner. In 2014, its engine (a 2.7-litre magnesium engine block from 1975) was completely rebuilt in accordance with RS specifications at a cost of over €15,000. Since then, it has been used solely for leisure purposes, exclusively for leisure drives and sightseeing trips.   It starts on the first try; revs rise freely; the gearbox shifts precisely; and the suspension settings provide excellent feedback through the steering, ensuring handling that lives up to the brand’s reputation. Typical in its Grand Prix White livery with blue wheels and lettering, the quality of the paintwork, the underbody and the alignment are particularly noteworthy. The interior is similar to the original, with a few differences, notably its bolted roll cage and non-original steering wheel.   Whilst this 911 Carrera RS 2.7 has the advantage of a well-documented service history, we would like to draw your attention to a recent expert report indicating that the bodywork was probably replaced at an unknown date. The registration document and chassis number match, as does its secret number, which is identical to that listed in the manufacturer’s records. This example offers the opportunity to acquire one of the most legendary Porsches of all time, bearing the identity of an ‘M471’ Lightweight – a model that is among the most highly prized and sought-after by collectors.
