c.1923 – Citroën 5 HP Flatbed Chassis no. 1JCCF87AXFT004443 Vehicle sold without registration documents Vehicle sold without a roadworthiness test “Museum condition, incredible patina…” The second car produced by automotive pioneer André Citroën, the Type C 5 HP was one of the first European cars to be mass-produced, with nearly 90,000 units manufactured.   The 5 HP’s success was partly down to André Citroën’s commercial genius. One of the first cars available on hire purchase, it was marketed primarily to a female audience – something unusual at the time.    This 5 HP is a flatbed version. It is in its original condition and has likely spent most of its life in Haute-Garonne.   Its owner’s plate and the incredible advertisement on the doors match; it belonged to Abel Athané, a cement manufacturer and stonemason in Saint-Martory, in Haute-Garonne. He was also a dealer in ‘gravestones’, which he could sell ‘on credit terms’!    Here is an incredible relic of a bygone era, bearing the unmistakable patina of time. Perfect for a thoughtful mechanical restoration, or to be added, as is, to a museum collection…
