1980 – Chevrolet Camaro Sport Coupé Chassis no. 1P87KAN563174 Belgian registration certificate “Manual gearbox and first-hand ownership: a Camaro in excellent condition!”   In 1964, Ford launched the Mustang, creating a new genre: the ‘pony cars’. The other major American manufacturers sought to capture a share of this extremely lucrative new market segment.   When Chevrolet joined the fray, it did so with a car destined to become as iconic as its rival from Dearborn: the Camaro. The Camaro has evolved gradually over the years and now spans six generations. In 1980, the penultimate year of the second generation, the base engine in the Sport Coupé – the straight-six – was replaced by a 3.7-litre V6.   The car featured in these pages must have a history and specification that are unique in Europe! It is a car bought new by the current owner, dark grey in colour with a beige interior, a manual gearbox and a ‘T-bar’ sunroof.   After being used until the late 1980s, it was stored for over 30 years before undergoing mechanical work costing more than €10,000.
