Description
1958 JAGUAR XK150
Serial number: S831270
Classic car registration document
- Sought-after SE model
- 5-speed gearbox and power steering
- Same owner since 2007
- First car to be fitted with 4 disc brakes.
- Numerous interesting improvements to make driving easier
Launched in 1957 following the XK120 and XK140, the Jaguar XK150 stands out for its one-piece panoramic windscreen, its wider cabin and its modernised styling. Technically, it was the first to feature four disc brakes as standard. It was available with a 3.4-litre inline-six engine, derived from the race-winning engines fitted to the Type C and Type D models. This engine could be specified with the ‘SE ’ (Special Equipment) specification, characterised in particular by the fitting of three SU carburettors, which increase power output. Replaced in the early 1960s by the Type E, the XK range remains a benchmark for enthusiasts.
The example shown here is an OTS (Open Two-Seater) roadster in the 3.4-litre SE version, delivered in British Racing Green with a beige leather interior. After being owned by a collector from Isère from 1991 to 2007, this car came into the possession of its current owner.
This car has undergone several technical modifications designed to make it easier to drive, carried out by the previous owner between 1991 and 2007. Whilst there are no associated invoices, these modifications are detailed in an expert’s report. A genuine BMW 5-speed manual gearbox has been fitted, along with hydraulic power steering, a stainless steel exhaust system, 4-piston brake calipers, an electric fuel pump and an additional fan. The 3.4-litre engine has also been fitted with three SU carburettors. Inside, the original seats have been replaced by bucket seats mounted on extended rails to improve interior space.
These various modifications make the car easier to drive by alleviating some of its original limitations, notably through lighter steering, a more responsive gearbox and a more spacious cabin.
Since 2007, the car has been serviced by specialists in the make, including a service at AS Engineering in 2017 and the replacement of the master cylinder in 2023. The bodywork has undergone a beautifully executed classic restoration, the even patina of which lends the car an authentic charm.
Today, the engine starts and runs smoothly. However, as the car has been driven very little in recent years, we recommend a mechanical service before undertaking any long journeys in it.
More accessible than ever, this 1958 Jaguar XK150 3.4L OTS SE combines its legendary styling with technical improvements that make it easier to drive, whilst retaining the charm of a beautiful patina.
