Description
1987 SBARRO SPATULE Chassis No. 001 Former FIA passport, now expired • Prototype designed by Franco Sbarro in Grandson • History linked to Gérard Pillon and Patrick Lesur • Chevrolet Small Block V8 engine • In the current collection since 2001 Built at the start of Franco Sbarro’s independent career at the ACA workshop in Grandson, the ‘Spatule’ takes its nickname from its low, flattened front end. This prototype illustrates its designer’s research into V8-powered racing cars. Chassis 001 combines a multi-tubular frame with a Chevrolet Small Block V8 engine, a power unit documented in its history since at least 1990. Its racing history includes an entry by Gérard Pillon in the Casablanca Grand Prix, followed by appearances by Franco Sbarro in hillclimb races. The car subsequently passed into the hands of Patrick Lesur, was issued with an FIA passport in 1990 and competed, notably, in the Coupes de l’Âge d’Or in 1995. It joined the current collection in 2001, in its present condition. The original FIA certificate, now expired, accompanies the car. Any return to the track will require an inspection of its condition, its equipment and the documents required for the chosen event. This Sbarro is aimed at a collector with an appreciation for independent creations and the history of prototypes, offering the opportunity to showcase a design from the early days of the Grandson workshop. 1968 SBARRO ‘SPATULE’ Chassis no. 001 Historic FIA passport, now expired • Prototype designed by Franco Sbarro at Grandson • History associated with Gérard Pillon and Patrick Lesur • Chevrolet Small Block V8 • In the current collection since 2001 Built during the early years of Franco Sbarro’s independent ACA workshop in Grandson, the ‘Spatule’ takes its nickname from its low, flat nose.
