Description
FIAT 500 ‘Jolly’ — 1963 Registration number: GW-748-VJ Model: 110 Date of first registration: 7 January 1963 Chassis number: 167373 Fuel: Petrol 1963 FIAT 500 JOLLY by GHIA A rare and iconic Italian beach car Authentic ‘Jolly’ conversion by Ghia Elegant combination of pastel green and wicker Make: Fiat Model: 500 Jolly Bodybuilder: Ghia Year: 1963 Date of first registration: 7 January 1963 Type: 110 Chassis number: 167373 Fuel: Petrol French registration document First produced in the late 1950s, the Fiat 500 Jolly remains undoubtedly one of the most charming and carefree interpretations of the small Italian car. Produced by the renowned Carrozzeria Ghia on the basis of the popular Fiat 500, it was conceived as an elegant beach car intended for the most fashionable seaside resorts of the Mediterranean. Stripped of its conventional doors and wide open to the outside, the Jolly immediately stands out thanks to its distinctive wicker seats, side ropes and large sun canopy. Produced in limited numbers, it quickly became a favoured feature of luxury hotels, yachts and summer residences on the Côte d’Azur and the Italian Riviera. The example we are presenting is an authentic Fiat 500 Jolly built by Ghia, first registered on 7 January 1963. Its very attractive pastel green colour complements its natural wicker seats and bench particularly well. The side vents are traditionally closed with ropes, whilst a generous green and white canvas roof, edged with a light-coloured fringe, completes this decidedly summery look. The dashboard retains all the characteristic simplicity of the Fiat 500, with its central instrument cluster, two-spoke steering wheel and floor-mounted gear lever. The rear engine compartment looks neat and tidy, whilst the front boot houses, amongst other things, the fuel tank and the spare wheel. Rare, instantly recognisable and particularly endearing, this Fiat 500 Jolly by Ghia perfectly embodies the laid-back elegance of La Dolce Vita. More than just a Fiat 500 convertible, over the decades the Jolly has become a true collector’s item, sought after as much for the uniqueness of its bodywork as for the lifestyle it symbolises. An ideal car to add to a collection dedicated to the great masterpieces of Italian design, but also to rekindle, during a summer drive, the atmosphere of the Mediterranean Rivieras of the 1960s. An authentic Jolly by Ghia The highly desirable wicker-seated configuration An attractive pastel green finish One of the most iconic beach cars of the Dolce Vita
