Description
Agricultural Tractor
Massey Harris
Pony 812
Year: 1952/1957
Serial No. 9699
Registration document: yes
Condition: non-running, straight out of the barn
History:
The first model of a small tractor designed to assist and gradually replace the horse; it has a power output of 16 chevaux, which was very respectable for the time, and above all, it was highly manoeuvrable. The price was 350,000 francs, which was a considerable sum, but this little machine was one of the driving forces behind post-war agricultural development. The mechanics are simple: a French petrol engine supplied by Simca; no hydraulic lift, but a lever system that allowed a small plough or implement to be raised. It was built in Marquette-lès-Lille in the Nord department and could therefore be distributed throughout the Benelux countries.
Condition:
This Pony has developed a lovely patina and the markings, which should be preserved, are still visible. It needs to be started up again, which should be fairly straightforward; its tyres are in good condition; it is presented alongside a Massey Ferguson mower that is newer than the tractor itself, and it is fitted with a drive pulley.
