Agricultural tractor – Fordson Super Major – Type EIADNMOD – Year 1957 - Serial no. 1416774 - Registration no. 9743-10 - Date of manufacture: 30/12/1957 - Condition: partially burnt History: Ford, a manufacturer in the automotive industry, took an interest in agricultural tractors at a very early stage. Following unsuccessful trials, it joined forces with Ferguson to produce a small tractor during the Second World War, which was highly sophisticated and modern compared to the metal-wheeled, non-lift models of the 1920s. From 1942 onwards, the first models were brought to market and the much-anticipated success was realised; even the US Army took a liking to them, as the tractors were deployed at airfields as runway tractors, the armed forces’ fuel supply service and on aircraft carriers as well, though in a version with a different body. Condition: The Fordson Major shown here has suffered fire damage to the left-hand side following a short circuit. The engine is not seized and the tractor can be repaired or used as a source of spare parts.
