Description
1964 FORD THUNDERBIRD HARDTOP COUPÉ – History:
Unveiled in the autumn of 1963 for the 1964 model year, the fourth generation of the Ford Thunderbird, nicknamed the ‘Flair Bird’, marked a significant development in the model’s history. Originally launched in 1955 as an elegant two-seater roadster designed to compete with the Chevrolet Corvette, the Thunderbird quickly evolved into the ‘Personal Luxury Car’ concept, becoming the benchmark for this category in the United States.
The 1964 model introduced a new front end featuring the name ‘THUNDERBIRD’ in raised lettering on the bonnet – a signature feature unique to that model year. Longer, more comfortable and more luxurious than its predecessors, it came as standard with a Cruise-O-Matic automatic gearbox and a powerful 390 cubic inch (6.4-litre) V8 engine.
Highly regarded for its driving comfort, its quintessentially American style and its high-end features, the Thunderbird remains one of the great classics of the 1960s.
Description:
The car on offer is a 1964 Ford Thunderbird Hardtop Coupé, originating from the United States, as evidenced by its Californian number plate.
Its condition reveals a car that is remarkably complete, retaining in particular its 1964-specific grille, bumpers, body mouldings and black interior with a full-width centre console and separate seats.
Having been off the road for a long time, this Thunderbird provides an excellent basis for restoration or bringing back to life for enthusiasts of classic American cars from the 1960s.
