Description
1979 FORD T MUSTANG COUPÉ - History: Unveiled in the autumn of 1978 for the 1979 model year, the third generation of the Ford Mustang was based on the new Fox platform, designed to deliver a more modern, lighter and more economical car than previous generations. This Mustang introduced a new design philosophy whilst retaining the V8 engines that had made the model so successful. The Ghia trim level represented the top of the Mustang range at the time. It stood out for its more luxurious appearance, featuring bespoke upholstery, wood-effect trim, a higher standard of equipment and a particularly high-quality finish. Description: The car on display is a 1979 Ford Mustang Ghia Coupé, originally from the US, registered in Belgium in the 1990s and fitted with the famous Ford Windsor V8 302 ci (4,942 cm³) paired with a manual gearbox – a combination that has become relatively rare on the European market. It is presented in an elegant metallic grey paintwork combined with a blue interior typical of the Ghia trim, comprising fabric and vinyl upholstery, a dashboard featuring imitation wood inlays and a full centre console. The car retains its Ford V8 engine, its complete engine bay and the majority of its original equipment. The various serial numbers recorded on the vehicle match across the manufacturer’s plate, the cold-stamped chassis number, the Belgian identification plate and the administrative documents. The engine bay is in its original configuration, with no major visible modifications. Despite having been off the road for a long time, it appears complete and provides an excellent basis for getting the car back on the road. The interior retains a very fine level of authenticity. The upholstery is complete. The trim, dashboard and interior panels are well preserved. A thorough clean will restore it to its full former glory. The front left seat is torn. The headlining is torn. The bodywork features original paintwork that still presents a uniform appearance. The car retains good alignment of the doors and windows, and the various body panels appear to fit together well. A few paint chips, normal wear and tear, old touch-ups and minor surface imperfections are visible, mainly on the bumpers and certain body edges, which is to be expected given the vehicle’s age. Some traces of surface oxidation are also visible on certain metal parts. Corrosion on the boot lid. Overall, this Mustang presents itself as an ideal base for bringing the car back onto the road, either with a light restoration or by preserving it in its current condition. This Mustang comes with its original Belgian registration certificate, its Ford certificate of conformity and an old Belgian roadworthiness test certificate, constituting a particularly interesting set of documents for a vehicle of this generation.
