Description
CITROËN 5HP ‘TREFLE’ 1925 – History: Unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in 1921, the Citroën Type C 5 HP was one of the brand’s greatest commercial successes during the 1920s. Designed to offer a lightweight, economical and reliable car, it enabled Citroën to make motoring accessible to an ever-wider customer base. The Trèfle version, introduced in 1923, is undoubtedly the most iconic in the range. Its ingenious three-seater layout, featuring a central rear seat, earned it its now legendary nickname. Description: The car on display is a Citroën Type C 5 HP Trèfle, likely manufactured in November 1925, although its Belgian registration document states a first registration date of 1938 – no doubt marking the vehicle’s entry into Belgium at that time. This car exhibits a very fine overall sense of authenticity and appears to have undergone a restoration that has now developed a harmonious patina. This car has been restored and shows some flaws in the chrome work and elsewhere. The engine compartment appears to be particularly complete and notably retains its Citroën manufacturer’s plate. The various visible mechanical components are consistent in their configuration. Please note that the engine block is cracked, no doubt due to frost damage.
