Description
1968 VAUXHALL VIVA HB DELUXE – History:
Unveiled at the London Motor Show in 1966, the Vauxhall Viva HB succeeded the first-generation HA model and featured an entirely new design, inspired by General Motors’ American models. With its sculpted flanks, more generous glazing and balanced proportions, the Viva HB marked a clear stylistic evolution and contributed to Vauxhall’s success on the British market in the late 1960s.
Positioned as a compact family saloon, the Viva HB was available with a range of four-cylinder petrol engines ranging from 1.0 to 2.0 litres, depending on the version. Models fitted with the 998 cm³ engine, such as the one shown here, formed the core of the range. Simple, economical and renowned for their robustness, they proved highly popular with customers seeking a reliable car that was inexpensive to maintain.
Produced from 1966 to 1970 in a total of over 560,000 units across all versions, the Viva HB is today one of the most iconic Vauxhalls of that period. Whilst it remains relatively common in the United Kingdom, examples preserved on the European mainland have become particularly rare.
Description:
The car on offer is a Vauxhall Viva HB Deluxe, first registered on 9 July 1968.
The vehicle is presented in an elegant burgundy colour, paired with its 998 cm³ four-cylinder petrol engine.
The bodywork appears complete and seems to retain all its main original components. The bumpers, lights, trim strips and exterior fittings are all present. The car appears to be in fairly good condition.
The documentation accompanying the car is particularly comprehensive. It includes, in particular, the General Motors certificate of conformity issued in 1968, the Belgian vehicle registration document, several roadworthiness test certificates, an administrative declaration, as well as various invoices and proofs of sale.
The various documents consulted provide consistent information regarding the chassis number, engine capacity, date of first registration and the vehicle’s identification.
