Description
1969 VOLVO P1300 AMAZON – History:
Unveiled in 1961 as a replacement for the PV544, the Volvo Amazon P1300 built on the success of the famous Swedish saloon designed by Jan Wilsgaard. Robust, elegant and exceptionally reliable, it quickly established itself as one of Volvo’s most iconic models and played a major part in building the brand’s reputation for durability.
The P1300 version is fitted with the renowned Volvo B20 two-litre four-cylinder engine, known for its exceptional durability and ease of maintenance. Paired with a manual gearbox, it offers an excellent driving experience whilst retaining the reliability that made Volvos of the 1960s so famous.
With several hundred thousand units produced up until 1970, the Amazon is now a safe bet amongst classic European saloons, prized as much for its timeless elegance as for its ease of restoration.
Description:
The car on offer is a Volvo P1300 Amazon first registered on 21 March 1969, which was stored indoors for many years before joining this collection.
It is presented in an elegant green livery paired with a brown interior, in which the upholstery, door panels, dashboard and steering wheel appear to be original.
The vehicle is particularly complete and retains its Volvo B20 engine as well as its engine compartment in a configuration that is broadly true to the original. Despite a long period of inactivity, the car appears to be in a consistent condition and provides an excellent basis for returning it to working order or for a conservation restoration.
The bodywork is finished in its original green paintwork, with an original patina. The car is complete and offers a good basis for restoration. There is evidence of corrosion in various places on the bodywork as well as on the underbody, requiring panel beating work depending on the desired level of restoration. The doors and windows appear to be complete, and the main bodywork components, glazing, trim and accessories are present. This Volvo Amazon provides a sound and authentic basis for a restoration.
The interior is complete and retains a fine degree of original authenticity. The brown vinyl seats display a patina consistent with the vehicle’s age, showing normal wear and tear but with no apparent major tears. The dashboard is cracked in places and the driver’s door panel is damaged. The instruments, the steering wheel and the main fittings are all present. A thorough clean and restoration of certain interior components will be required to restore it to its original appearance. Despite these flaws, the interior remains complete and provides an excellent basis for restoration.
This Amazon comes with its Belgian registration documents as well as its Volvo certificate of conformity, making for a particularly interesting file.
