Description
1964 PEUGEOT 403 SALOON – History:
Unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in 1955, the Peugeot 403 marked a significant milestone in the history of the Sochaux-based manufacturer. The first Peugeot designed by the renowned Italian coachbuilder Pinin Farina, it was an instant hit thanks to its modern styling, comfort and remarkable robustness.
Available in numerous versions (saloon, estate, convertible, van, etc.), the 403 quickly became one of the most popular French cars of the 1950s and 1960s. With over 1.2 million units produced between 1955 and 1966, it remains a true benchmark amongst French classic saloons today.
Description:
The car on offer is a Peugeot 403 B7 first registered on 16 October 1964.
The bodywork is in a very poor overall condition. It shows significant corrosion on numerous parts, with visible perforations on several sections of the body and underbody. A complete panel beating restoration will be essential. However, the car is relatively complete and provides a good basis for restoration by a knowledgeable enthusiast.
The interior is also in a very poor state of preservation. The seats have significant tears and several holes in the upholstery. The trim is heavily worn and the entire interior will require a complete restoration. Despite this condition, the main interior components appear to be present.
Mechanically, the vehicle has not been started and will require a full service before any attempt is made to start it. It nevertheless provides an excellent basis for restoration thanks to its authenticity and its particularly well-documented history.
The documentation accompanying this Peugeot is a real asset. The first registration certificate, dated 1964, identifies its first owner in Maubert-Fontaine (Ardennes) as well as its original registration number, which is still present on the vehicle. The road tax discs from 1984, 1985 and 1986, as well as its insurance certificate valid until 31 October 1987, further reinforce the traceability of this car.
