Description
1981 ROLLS-ROYCE SILVER SPIRIT – History:
Unveiled in 1980, the Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit heralded a new generation of luxury saloons for the Crewe-based marque. Succeeding the Silver Shadow II, it adopted a more modern design whilst retaining the aesthetic hallmarks that have made Rolls-Royce’s reputation: an imposing silhouette, handcrafted finish and exceptional levels of comfort.
Fitted with the famous 6.75-litre V8 engine mated to an automatic gearbox, the Silver Spirit also benefited from a complex high-pressure hydraulic system derived from Citroën’s, which controlled the brakes and the self-levelling suspension.
Produced from 1980 to 1989 before being replaced by the Silver Spirit II, this first series remains highly sought-after today for its timeless elegance, driving comfort and build quality.
Description:
The car on offer is a Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit first registered on 17 February 1981.
The original paintwork has developed a significant patina with various signs of wear and will require restoration to regain its full lustre. The chrome fittings, trim strips and exterior accessories appear to be present. There is corrosion in various places.
The interior is complete and retains its original fittings. The beige leather upholstery shows normal wear and tear due to its age but remains well preserved. The wood trim on the dashboard and centre console is present, as are the main original fittings, notably the on-board telephone. A thorough clean will enhance the overall appearance. The wood trim on the door panels is in poor condition.
The engine compartment appears to be particularly complete and has clearly not undergone any major modifications. The various components specific to the Rolls-Royce hydraulic system are still in place. As the vehicle is being presented straight from storage, a full mechanical overhaul will need to be carried out before it can be used.
The boot is also very well-equipped. The four original Rolls-Royce wheel trims are present, as are the various trim panels.
The documentation accompanying this Silver Spirit includes, in particular, the Belgian registration certificate, the certificate of conformity, a previous Belgian roadworthiness test certificate, and various administrative documents detailing the vehicle’s history. The various numbers recorded on the manufacturer’s plates match those shown on the documents.
