RELIANT SCIMITAR GTE OVERDRIVE – History: Unveiled at the London Motor Show in 1968, the Reliant Scimitar GTE marked a turning point in the history of the British manufacturer Reliant. Designed by the renowned Italian designer Tom Karen for Ogle Design, it pioneered the modern ‘shooting brake’ concept, combining the performance of a GT coupé with the practicality of a three-door estate. Built on a robust steel chassis clad in a polyester body, the Scimitar was fitted with the renowned 3-litre Ford Essex V6 engine, known for its smoothness and reliability. The combination of this powerful engine with an overdrive gearbox delivers excellent performance whilst maintaining genuine comfort on long journeys. The Scimitar GTE enjoyed great success across the Channel, not least thanks to Princess Anne, who owned several examples. Produced until 1986, across all generations, it remains today an unusual, endearing car that is particularly sought after by enthusiasts of British GTs. The beige paintwork shows significant patina due to prolonged storage, with widespread soiling. The various panels appear to be in good condition, with no major cracks, significant distortions or obvious signs of impact. The bumpers, trim strips, windows and main trim elements are present, but in poor condition due to rust. The visible underbody reveals a chassis showing mainly surface corrosion, with no apparent perforations on the visible parts. The car as a whole provides an interesting basis for restoration. The interior is generally well preserved and appears to be complete. The brown leather upholstery looks good, with a patina consistent with the vehicle’s age.
