Description
JAGUAR XJS V12 PRE HE – History:
Unveiled in 1975, the Jaguar XJ-S succeeded the legendary E-Type with a design philosophy firmly rooted in Grand Tourisme. Designed under the direction of Malcolm Sayer, it prioritised comfort, long-distance travel and mechanical smoothness over the sporting character of its predecessor. Its elegant 5.3-litre V12 engine, already tried and tested in the E-Type Series III, enabled it to deliver top-class performance whilst maintaining a remarkable level of refinement.
Produced until 1996 with over 115,000 units built, the XJ-S went on to become one of Jaguar’s iconic models. The earliest examples, such as the one presented here, are now particularly sought after for their original styling and authenticity.
Description:
The car shown here is a Jaguar XJ-S V12 5.3 first registered in 1977.
Having been in long-term storage, this car is in an extremely poor state of preservation. The bodywork is severely affected by widespread perforating corrosion, affecting numerous body panels as well as several structural components. The underbody also shows very significant corrosion, making restoration a particularly daunting task.
The engine compartment appears to be complete and retains its 5,343 cm³ Jaguar V12 engine as well as its main accessories. However, the entire assembly is heavily corroded and no functional checks have been carried out.
The interior is in a very poor state. The leather upholstery is badly torn, the trim is very worn and the headlining has come away completely. Despite this condition, the main dashboard components appear to be present.
The vehicle comes with its original registration documents. The numbers recorded on the vehicle match those shown on the documents.
Given the extent of the corrosion, the very poor condition of the interior and the considerable work required, this example should be regarded primarily as a source of spare parts, as a restoration would appear to be economically unfeasible.
