1987 CADILLAC ALLANTE – History: Unveiled for the 1987 model year, the Cadillac Allanté was Cadillac’s answer to prestigious European convertibles such as the Mercedes-Benz SL and the Jaguar XJ-S Cabriolet. Its design was entrusted to the renowned Italian coachbuilder Pininfarina, who assembled the bodywork in Turin before it was flown to Detroit, where the mechanical components were fitted. This remarkable logistical operation, dubbed the ‘Air Bridge’ at the time, made the Allanté one of the most unique cars of its era. Powered by a 4.1-litre V8 engine mated to an automatic gearbox, the Allanté prioritised comfort, luxury and long-distance travel, whilst offering a particularly high standard of equipment for the late 1980s. Produced until 1993 in a run of just over 21,000 units, it remains today a rare and unusual model in the Cadillac range.
