Description
SUNBEAM VOGUE 1970 – History: Unveiled in 1967, the Sunbeam Vogue was the most luxurious model in the ‘Arrow’ range developed by the Rootes Group. It succeeded the previous-generation Minx whilst adopting a modern design created under the direction of Roy Axe. Positioned at the top of the range, the Vogue stood out for its more refined appearance, superior level of equipment and a more sophisticated finish than the Minx and Super versions. It was powered by the robust 1,725 cm³ Rootes inline four-cylinder engine, fitted with a carburettor and mated to a manual gearbox. Renowned for its reliability and ease of maintenance, this engine would also be fitted to several other models in the Rootes Group during the 1970s. From 1967 onwards, Rootes gradually came under the control of Chrysler, whilst continuing to market the models under the Sunbeam brand. Produced until 1970, the Vogue remains a relatively rare model on the European market today, particularly in its original specification and accompanied by its period documentation. Description: The car on offer is a Sunbeam Vogue first registered on 12 August 1970. The vehicle comes with its Belgian registration certificate, a previous roadworthiness certificate and its original manufacturer’s number plates. The chassis number LB353001146 recorded on the vehicle matches that shown on the administrative documents. The bodywork is in a very poor state of repair and will require a complete restoration. The vehicle is severely affected by perforating corrosion, which is particularly severe on the underbody and several structural components. Perforations are also visible on various body panels and in the windscreen surround. The paintwork has been severely affected by the weather and storage, making this Sunbeam a particularly ambitious restoration project. The interior is also in a poor state of repair. The original upholstery shows numerous tears and significant wear and tear. The wood trim on the dashboard and door panels is badly damaged. The whole interior will require a complete restoration. The engine compartment appears to be complete and retains its 1,725 cm³ Rootes engine as well as most of its original major components. The car shows significant storage patina, with numerous signs of oxidation and grime. As the engine has not been started or dismantled, it is impossible to assess the mechanical condition of the engine or its components. A full service will be essential before any attempt is made to start the engine. Specifications: Make: Sunbeam Model: Vogue First registered: 12 August 1970 Manufacturer: Rootes Motors Ltd.
