Description
ZIMMER GOLDEN SPIRIT 1982 – History:
Unveiled in the early 1980s, the Zimmer Golden Spirit is one of the most famous creations by the American manufacturer Zimmer Motor Cars. Produced in Pompano Beach (Florida), it was built on a heavily modified Ford Mustang Fox Body chassis, clad in a spectacular neo-classical fibreglass body reminiscent of the grand luxury cars of the 1930s.
Each Golden Spirit was produced in small batches and featured particularly luxurious fittings, including leather upholstery, burl walnut inlays, a full suite of instruments and, depending on the version, electric Recaro seats. Aimed at customers seeking an exclusive car, the Golden Spirit was sold at a very high price for the time, well above that of the Mustang from which it was derived.
Produced between 1978 and 1988, it is estimated that around 1,500 Zimmer Golden Spirit models were built, although no official figures were published by the manufacturer. This limited production run now makes it one of the most sought-after American neo-classic models
Description:
The example shown here is a Zimmer Golden Spirit first registered in May 1982.
The bodywork is complete and retains all its Zimmer-specific features. The paintwork is in fair condition, with several scratches, chips and cosmetic imperfections due to age and storage. There are also several breaks and cracks in the fibreglass bodywork components, particularly on certain panels. The alloy wheels show significant surface oxidation and will require restoration or replacement to restore them to a presentable condition.
The interior is complete and in good condition. The beige leather upholstery is well preserved, with a patina consistent with the vehicle’s age. The bespoke Recaro seats, wood trim, centre console and main fittings are all present. However, the headlining has come away completely and will require refurbishment. The door seals also show signs of ageing.
The engine compartment appears complete and retains its 3.9-litre Ford V6 engine as well as the majority of its original major components. The whole unit is covered in a thick layer of storage dust but does not appear to have undergone any major modifications. As the engine has not been started or dismantled, it is impossible to assess the mechanical condition of the engine or its components. A full service will be essential before any attempt is made to start it.
