1957 CITROËN TRACTION 11 FAMILIALE – History: First unveiled in 1934, the Citroën Traction Avant Familiale was the long-wheelbase version of the famous Traction Avant, designed to carry several passengers. Incorporating the revolutionary technical innovations introduced by Citroën – a self-supporting monocoque body, front-wheel drive, independent suspension on all four wheels and a lowered centre of gravity – it offered a level of comfort, road holding and safety far ahead of its time. The 11 Familiale version was powered by a robust 1,911 cm³ four-cylinder engine developing around 56 ch, coupled with a three-speed manual gearbox. Thanks to its extended wheelbase, it boasts a spacious interior capable of accommodating up to nine occupants, depending on the chosen layout. Highly popular with large families, government departments and taxi companies, it remained in production until the Traction Avant was discontinued in 1957. Produced in far smaller numbers than the 11 B and 11 BL saloons, the 11 Familiale is now one of the most sought-after versions amongst Traction Avant enthusiasts. The black paintwork shows significant patina, with scratches, chips and cosmetic flaws due to its age and prolonged storage. The bumpers are dented and show surface oxidation. The underbody shows widespread corrosion, mainly superficial, affecting the running gear, steering components, suspension mountings and the exhaust. The side members and main structural components appear to be present, but a thorough inspection will be essential before the car is put back on the road. The interior is complete and retains a fine sense of authenticity. The original upholstery, door panels, dashboard and instrumentation are all still present. The upholstery has a patina consistent with the vehicle’s age. The steering wheel is cracked and the headlining shows signs of age, but overall the car provides a good basis for restoration.
