Description
FIAT 1500 1962 – History:
Unveiled at the Turin Motor Show in 1961, the Fiat 1500 heralded a new generation of saloons from the Italian manufacturer. More modern than the Fiat 1200 and 1400 models it replaced, it featured an elegant body designed by the Centro Stile Fiat, characterised by its understated and balanced lines, typical of Italian car design in the early 1960s.
The Fiat 1500 was powered by a 1,481 cm³ inline four-cylinder engine producing around 72 ch, mated to a fully synchronised four-speed manual gearbox. Thanks to its independent front suspension, effective brakes and respectable performance, it stood out for its excellent balance of comfort, reliability and driving pleasure.
Produced from 1961 to 1967, the Fiat 1500 enjoyed great commercial success and remains today an Italian saloon car prized for its understated elegance, mechanical robustness and the ease of sourcing spare parts.
Description:
This Fiat 1500, a Type 116 with chassis number FIAT 1160058095, is in good overall condition. It comes with its Belgian registration certificate, service history book, period documentation, several invoices and various documents relating to its maintenance history. The chassis numbers stamped on the bodywork match those shown on the manufacturer’s plate and on the registration documents.
The bodywork presents a fine overall appearance, with the original paintwork retaining a uniform finish. Some signs of wear and ageing are naturally visible, as are several localised areas of corrosion, particularly at the bottom of the doors and in a few other specific areas.
The interior is in a good state of preservation. The upholstery has a lovely original patina with no apparent major damage. The interior trim is consistent with the vehicle’s age. It should be noted, however, that the dashboard is warped due to exposure to sunlight.
The engine compartment is complete and appears largely in line with the original configuration. The four-cylinder engine is fitted with its main accessories, notably the air filter housing, radiator, exhaust manifold and period components. The engine and surrounding components display a uniform patina, indicating a well-maintained vehicle with no recent cosmetic restoration. No major faults were visually identified during the inspection.
The vehicle comes with its keys, documentation and Belgian registration papers. No road test was carried out during our inspection and it is therefore not possible to comment on its running condition. A full service is recommended before the vehicle is put back on the road.
